The fact that much of the population must be labeled “mentally ill” to explain why so many individuals are not mentally or emotionally equipped to handle the gruelling mindset & method of action capitalism necessitates just goes to show how horrifically unnatural a system it is. People are shitting on this post on the basis of mental illness being chemical and genetic, and that is TRUE. It is real. It needs treatment, like any disease. Y'all know I am loudly in favor of medication.
What is also true is that my mental health issues would drop by about 75% if I were financially secure and didn’t have to worry about basic survival.
It absolutely makes a difference. Yes, medication is very necessary for many people, and still would be even if those people were financially stable. But it is indisputable that financial security dramatically reduces the amount of human suffering.
Pretty sure if I were rich I’d have about ¼ the anxiety issues I have now, since most of it is about very specific things that money could 100% solve.
We KNOW stress contributes tremendously to many physical ailments. Mental health issues ARE a physical ailment. Poverty and overwork are a huge source of stress. Just saying.
